The "connect the dots" activity is offered by the "CERN and its neighbours" team for public events and children groups until ~16.
It was initially designed as a "light weight master class", but experience shows that it can be transformed into a collective activity by asking questions to participants. Files exist in English and in French.
This is now used as an introduction to LHC / ATLAS for the youngest students ( "stage de 3e" )
For public events and exhibits it goes very well with a screen displaying:
- ATLAS live events
- CERN video on "Processing LHC data"
- WLCG map of active sites and transfers stats
- 1 terabyte cartridge are on sale at the CERN reception, for 10 CHF. Comes with a link to the CERN & society web site & a bookmark quoting - LHC Run 1 - numbers. For comparison a typical movie is ~ 1 to 3 GB per hour (depending on the resolution) --> this tape is ~ 500 hours of movies. In run2 the ATLAS SFO export rate increased to 2 GB/s --> this tape would have been filled in 8 minutes.
