Inspired by Pop Science Poems

2014-2015   POPScience

POPScience was a 2 year long EU grant which allowed - among other activities - to setup interactions with poets through three phases:

July 2014: 6 European poets interact with CERN prominent scientists for a few days.

  • PopScience poets visit CERN video recordings
  • Poems are translated in several languages (English, French, Italian, Spanish, German) by members of the World poetry academy
  • The e-books edited by Subway-Edizioni are published online shortly after the Researchers' night evening at FNAC, Geneva.

Fall 2014:  a public poetry competition, where 6 prices are given in the globe, in Feb 2015.

2015, "year of the light": invitation of new European poets

  • see CERN bulletin article by Susanna Wong
  • September 2015, visit of the poet Gao Xingjiang (Nobel price 2000)  [ see  Idea Square actors behind the scenes ]. The University of Geneva hosted "Faits d'ombre et de lumière - Regards croisés du poète et du physicien sur la réalité humaine" , a conference given by the poet Gao Xingjiang (Nobel price 2000) and Sergio Bertolucci (Director of research at CERN) [ Event recording ]

Warning: both POPscience and Subway-Edizioni web sites are gone, links are broken.

2019   ORIGIN

We are exploring the possibility to bring this currently unused material back to life as a source of inspiration, for the LHCP 2019 Puebla exhibit.  To develop further, we will need to consider

  • Design: slideshow, reading, e-book printing, mix with images... Which support in which event/exhibit context ?
  • Translation in more languages: through a collaboration with local poets... or existing links with the international poet society ?
  • Creativity: can we consider organising local and specific competitions, either to create new poems or to develop art pieces inspired by the current ones ?
  • Links: with theatre performances, music ?
